Blue Plant Leaf
Brushstroke Arrow Smooth Curve Down Small

In a pilot study, Butzer et al. (2015) observed that ten weeks of yoga intervention with 7-9-year-old children showed statistically significant improvements in these areas.

From teaching and witnessing the effects of yoga on children for the past ten years, I would agree whole-heartedly with these results ;-)

  • Attention span
  • Stress coping
  • Confidence
  • Time on task
  • Academic performance
  • Improved mood
  • Cortisol concentration changes

About

CAT COW YOGA

Cat Cow Yoga isn't your average yoga gig - it's a roving yoga carnival that sets up shop at schools and communities in the Tidewater area, serving up a dose of yoga magic.

The spark for Cat Cow Yoga was ignited way back, when I first dipped my toes into the world of yoga. But it wasn't until my son came along, bringing the "terrible twos" with him, that I saw how yoga could be a game-changer for kids. After completing a special yoga training for teaching children at Aura Wellness Center in Massachusetts, the dream of Cat Cow Yoga started taking shape. I began leading yoga sessions at my child's preschool and introducing yoga to Deaf and hard-of-hearing children in the local community. I am so thankful to the many yoga teachers, educators, family and friends who have lighted the path and are making it possible to bring yoga to more little yogis.

The style of the classes is nothing like what you would expect --- think LOUD and WILD, usually. Kids get to burn off all that extra energy and make space for focus and balance. The influences for this 30-60 minute practice are a blend all of my favorite adult and kid teachers, including Katie Silcox, MC Yogi, Jamie Amor, Wah!, Twee Merigan, Amanda Giacomini (10,000 Buddhas), Kira Wiley and Bari Koral.

Answers to your most

frequently asked questions

What is the quickest way to get in touch?

If you have questions that are not answered here, the best way to get a quick answer is to text me at (855) 232-1219.

The class is sold out?

Always email me (barbara@catcowyogi.com) so I can add your child to a waiting list. Add my email to your address book to ensure that you receive updates when the next session begins or spaces become available.

Can I pay less if I know my child will not be there for every class?

This is not possible. When you register, you reserve a space for your child for the whole session, even if they are not there every week.

My child is almost old enough; can he/she join anyway?

The short answer is no. Many kids are ready for yoga before their time, but the age restrictions are based on class-size state regulations, which vary by age. It doesn't hurt to email me, though; if enough parents with children your age reach out, we might be able to get a class together for them.

I am having trouble signing up online, how do I make sure

my child is registered?

If you are still having trouble, email me (barbara@catcowyogi.com), and I can send you an invoice.

I didn't get a receipt, did my registration go through?

If you don't receive an email and you checked your spam folders, you are not signed up. Take your time as you check out and ensure you have scrolled to the bottom of the active screen to click on any confirmation buttons and finalize the registration. Always email if none of these methods get you the answer.

Is there an installment option for payments?

Yes! Afterpay offers the option to pay in installments and is an option in the checkout. If you already use Affirm, you can go to their website, where they will issue you a one-time use credit card to pay in the number of installments you choose; some options are interest-free.

What kind of yoga are the children going to do?

The movements are based on Hatha yoga. Meditations, stories, and activities come from various influences, all chosen to promote age-appropriate physical, social, and emotional development.

What if my child doesn't like it?

Sometimes, your child may give the class a try first. We do our best to spark the child's interest and discover what engages them. Usually, we find a way to support the child in enjoying yoga. The last thing we want is for a child to have a bad yoga experience.

Can I pay less if I know my child will not be there for every class?

This is impossible because, by registering, you reserve a weekly space for your child in a class with limited spaces, even if they are not there every week.

Does my child need to bring a mat to class?

No, they don't need anything! Mats are supplied. In some classes, we sit on a yoga cushion or yoga dots.
